How to Cope with Nitrogen Deficiency in Chili Trees ?

Your plants will not always be healthy because every growing phase will have the stopping phase where it grows old and dies. That’s when you know your plant is no longer productive. You can see it from the way the stems’ growth has stopped, little to not fruits, or even just straight up death.

In chili trees, your plants’ health can be disturbed by several factors like pests, pathogenic diseases, environmental reasons, weather and climate changes, water accumulation, nutrients in soil, etc.

Besides soil nutrients, crop land cleanliness is also important

Chili trees often lack several nutrients found in soil and this can cause physiological changes in your chili trees. Nitrogen is the nutrient that is used most by chili trees in their life activities like hormone and enzyme formation, cell metabolism, supporting factor in protein synthesizing process in cytoplasm with the help of cell organelle ribosome, components in nucleate acid (DNA and RNA), etc. However, sometimes chili trees lack this nutrient and as you can see based on its functions, it will affect your chili trees negatively.

Negative Effects of Nitrogen Deficiency in Chili Trees

Lacking nitrogen nutrient can cause these characteristics in chili trees:

  • Slow growth
  • Chlorosis, which is what happens when leaves turn pale green, yellow, then die and fall off
  • Early maturation of fruits
  • Imperfect organ formations, especially on roots, stems, and leaves
  • Weak leaves that are susceptible to pests and diseases
  • Leaves that are susceptible to necrosis

Looking at those negative effects, surely you as the farmer must be wise in taking care of your chili trees, including watching out for your plants’ nutrients consumption, not too much and not too little.

How to Cope with Lack of Nitrogen in Chili Trees

Some farmers have found their own special ways to circumvent this nitrogen deficiency problem. From discussions I’ve had with chili farmers, they usually cope with this problem by adding fertilizer that is high in nitrogen. Non-organic fertilizers that are high in nitrogen are KCL, urea, TSP, phonska, and so on. You can get those fertilizers in your local agriculture shops. Organic fertilizers like compost and cattle manure are also high in nitrogen. Applying both types of fertilizer can be helpful and will bring positive effects on your plants with nitrogen deficiency problem.
